g\u00e9ochronologique la plus utilis\u00e9e pour la p\u00e9riode des 50 000 derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es. Elle est fond\u00e9e sur la d\u00e9sint\u00e9gration radioactive du <sup>14<\/sup>C produit originellement dans la haute atmosph\u00e8re par interaction avec les particules du rayonnement cosmique. La teneur en <sup>14<\/sup>C d&#8217;un \u00e9chantillon fossile est compar\u00e9e \u00e0 la teneur atmosph\u00e9rique en <sup>14<\/sup>C, qui constitue la r\u00e9f\u00e9rence de d\u00e9part, avant sa disparition r\u00e9guli\u00e8re par d\u00e9sint\u00e9gration radioactive avec une p\u00e9riode de 5700 ans.<\/p><p>En outre, le <sup>14<\/sup>C n\u2019est pas m\u00e9lang\u00e9 de fa\u00e7on homog\u00e8ne dans les diff\u00e9rents r\u00e9servoirs du cycle biog\u00e9ochimique du carbone. La mesure de la teneur en <sup>14<\/sup>C d\u2019\u00e9chantillons repr\u00e9sentatifs de ces r\u00e9servoirs permet donc de quantifier la vitesse et l\u2019intensit\u00e9 des \u00e9changes, ainsi que leurs perturbations naturelles et anthropiques, le carbone des combustibles fossiles ne contenant pas de radiocarbone.<\/p><p>L\u2019unit\u00e9 du radiocarbone est d\u00e9di\u00e9e \u00e0 la mesure du <sup>14<\/sup>C pour dater les archives pal\u00e9oclimatiques, pal\u00e9oc\u00e9anographiques et arch\u00e9ologiques, ainsi que pour \u00e9tudier le cycle du carbone, notamment les \u00e9changes naturels et anthropiques entre l\u2019atmosph\u00e8re, l\u2019oc\u00e9an, la v\u00e9g\u00e9tation et les sols gr\u00e2ce au tra\u00e7age par le <sup>14<\/sup>C.<\/p><p>L\u2019unit\u00e9 du radiocarbone a \u00e9t\u00e9 fond\u00e9e en 2011 dans le cadre de l\u2019EQUIPEX ASTER-CEREGE cofinanc\u00e9 par la chaire de l\u2019\u00e9volution du climat et de l\u2019oc\u00e9an du Coll\u00e8ge de France. Le b\u00e2timent du Trocad\u00e9ro de l\u2019Arbois qui h\u00e9berge le LGO2i a fait l\u2019objet d\u2019une r\u00e9fection des laboratoires et de la construction d\u2019une extension pour accueillir le spectrom\u00e8tre de masse par acc\u00e9l\u00e9rateur AixMICADAS install\u00e9 en 2014 et inaugur\u00e9 en 2016. L\u2019unit\u00e9 dispose d\u2019\u00e9quipements compl\u00e9mentaires permettant de purifier le carbone et de synth\u00e9tiser le CO<sub>2<\/sub> ou le graphite analys\u00e9s directement avec
