Among these metals, rare earths form a group of metallic elements with unique properties (magnetic, optical or electrical). They represent a strategic resource due to their economic importance and China's virtual monopoly on extraction and processing. As part of a circular economy approach, one of the challenges is to find secondary sources of metals in the near future in order to cope with supply risks and reduce the pressure on primary resources. Some plants have the capacity to hyper-accumulate metals in their tissues. Are these plants capable of extracting rare earths directly from secondary sources? Can we draw inspiration from the mechanisms plants use to absorb rare earths to develop less polluting extraction methods?
The event will start with a coffee served in front of the Pasteur amphitheatre at 13:15.
The presentation will be in French and will be available for streaming (http://streaming-a.osupytheas.fr/embed/live.html).

Nous recevrons **Blanche Collin**, Maître de conférence dans l’équipe Environnement Durable du CEREGE.
