Activités de Recherche

Les systèmes orogéniques et leurs bassins d'avant-pays sont des zones complexes car il s’y produit une large interaction de processus géologiques à différentes échelles de temps et d’espace. La dynamique de ces systèmes compressifs est au premier ordre sous contrôle de la tectonique guidée par l’héritage structural sédimentaire, crustal et/ou lithosphérique, la sédimentation syn-tectonique et les conditions géodynamiques. Les bassins d'avant-pays renferment les signatures de l’évolution de la tectonique et sont des éléments fondamentaux pour caractériser et dater la dynamique des déformations orogéniques. Les mouvements tectoniques verticaux contrôlent la création de reliefs et par conséquent l’érosion/exhumation dans les zones en surrection, ainsi que la sédimentation/enfouissement dans les synclinaux transportés et dans l’avant-pays.

La sismique réflexion est un outil majeur pour l’analyse et l’interprétation en terme de géométrie des structures enfouies. Il est nécessaire de coupler l’information sismique avec les données de terrains, de puits et de géophysique. Les techniques quantitatives d’équilibrages des coupes géologiques permettent, en appliquant des règles géométriques et cinématiques simples, de proposer des géométries cohérentes des structures géologiques en profondeur. Les coupes équilibrées permettent de valider les états final et initial de la déformation et d’estimer les taux de raccourcissement ou d’extension des structures géologiques. Leur développement numérique a jalonné les quatre dernières décennies favorisant indéniablement le succès de l’exploration dans les chaînes de montagne. La reconstruction structurale évolutive détaillée intégrant l’évolution thermique et géochimique conduira à lever d’importants verrous pour optimiser la connaissance des systèmes orogéniques et leurs bassins d'avant-pays.

Mon activité de recherche porte sur la caractérisation de l’architecture structurale, le scénario du transfert de la déformation et les conséquences afférant aux systèmes pétroliers dans les bassins sédimentaires en contexte géodynamique de convergence (pro et rétrobassins d'avant-pays). Les chantiers de mes recherches en cours se situent en France (Pyrénées, Provence, Alpes), en Turquie (Pontides et Mer Noire) et dans les Andes (Pérou-Equateur).

Les deux objectifs majeurs et indissociables liés à mon activité de recherche sont de :

(1) caractériser d’un point de vue géométrique, l’architecture structurale et sédimentaire des bassins, et le rôle de l’héritage tectonique à l’aide des coupes équilibrées;

(2) reconstruire les étapes de la déformation afin de quantifier les processus géodynamiques tant à l’échelle crustale que lithosphérique.
