La chercheuse analyse les diatom\u00e9es, des algues microscopiques pr\u00e9sentes dans tous les milieux aquatiques, pour mieux conna\u00eetre le climat pass\u00e9 et actuel. Apr\u00e8s avoir men\u00e9 ses recherches en Am\u00e9rique latine, elle s\u2019installe au Tchad o\u00f9 elle estime les ressources en eau du pays gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 une approche multidisciplinaire et en partenariat avec les institutions tchadiennes.<\/em><em>\u00a0<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/lemag.ird.fr\/fr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IRD le Mag&#8217;<\/a> la met \u00e0 l\u2019honneur dans l&#8217;<a href=\"https:\/\/lemag.ird.fr\/fr\/florence-sylvestre-de-la-paleoclimatologie-andine-la-gestion-des-eaux-saheliennes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article suivant<\/a><\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-48a9d520 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"48a9d520\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Originaire du Sud-Est de la France, Florence Sylvestre effectue ses \u00e9tudes de g\u00e9ologie au Mus\u00e9um national d\u2019Histoire naturelle (MNHN) \u00e0 Paris. \u00c0 cette \u00e9poque, elle rencontre Michel et Simone Servant, deux sp\u00e9cialistes des pal\u00e9oclimats* tropicaux \u00e0 l\u2019IRD (alors Orstom). Ils proposent \u00e0 la jeune \u00e9tudiante de s\u2019envoler pour la Bolivie et d\u2019\u00e9tudier l\u2019\u00e9volution hydrologique pass\u00e9e des lacs de l\u2019Altiplano. Ils l\u2019invitent \u00e0 \u00e9tudier plus particuli\u00e8rement les diatom\u00e9es, microorganismes unicellulaires pr\u00e9sents dans tous les milieux aquatiques. Raimond, 2016<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Durant plusieurs mois, la doctorante travaille sur des archives s\u00e9dimentaires pr\u00e9lev\u00e9es dans les lacs de ce plateau situ\u00e9 \u00e0 plus de 3 600 m\u00e8tres d\u2019altitude et d\u00e9taille dans sa th\u00e8se, pour la premi\u00e8re fois, les variations hydrologiques et climatiques de l\u2019Altiplano au cours des 15\u00a0000 derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es. Le ton est donn\u00e9, sur les pas de ses \u00ab\u00a0parents scientifiques\u00a0\u00bb comme elle les appelle, Florence Sylvestre consacrera sa carri\u00e8re \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tude des pal\u00e9oclimats tropicaux et aux diatom\u00e9es.<\/p><p>\u00ab\u00a0<em>Ces microorganismes sont fascinants, leurs squelettes de verre sont tr\u00e8s beaux et on en compte plus de 70\u00a0000 esp\u00e8ces diff\u00e9rentes<\/em>, souligne-t-elle. <em>Les diatom\u00e9es sont un outil essentiel pour reconstituer les climats pass\u00e9s mais \u00e9galement analyser la qualit\u00e9 de l\u2019eau<\/em>.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p><p><strong>Littoraux br\u00e9siliens et lacs argentins<\/strong><\/p><p>De retour en France, Florence Sylvestre est nomm\u00e9e ma\u00eetresse de conf\u00e9rence, \u00e0 seulement 27 ans, \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9 d\u2019Angers. Durant sept ann\u00e9es, elle poursuit ses travaux sur l\u2019Altiplano bolivien. Elle \u00e9tend ses recherches \u00e0 d\u2019autres environnements de l\u2019Am\u00e9rique latine, tels que les littoraux br\u00e9siliens, guyanais et les lacs argentins. Apr\u00e8s une exp\u00e9rience de six mois au Canada o\u00f9 elle \u00e9tudie l\u2019environnement arctique, elle devient \u00e0 35 ans directrice de recherche \u00e0 l\u2019IRD, au Centre europ\u00e9en de recherche et d\u2019enseignement des g\u00e9osciences de l\u2019environnement (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cerege.fr\/fr\/\">Cerege<\/a>).<\/p><p><strong>Isotopes et syst\u00e8mes lacustres tchadiens<\/strong><\/p><p>La chercheuse y poursuit son travail sur l\u2019Am\u00e9rique latine mais s\u2019int\u00e9resse d\u00e8s la fin des ann\u00e9es 2000 \u00e0 l\u2019Afrique et plus particuli\u00e8rement au lac Tchad. \u00ab\u00a0<em>Tout le monde s\u2019alarmait de sa disparition alors que selon les pr\u00e9dictions du changement climatique, les pluies allaient augmenter au Sahel. J\u2019ai donc lanc\u00e9 un projet de recherches sur ce lac et son bassin versant et j\u2019ai coordonn\u00e9 de nombreuses missions notamment au Tchad. Elle y analyse les isotopes stables de l\u2019oxyg\u00e8ne des diatom\u00e9es.<br \/>Cr\u00e9dit : Corinne Sonzogni<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>En rejoignant le Cerege, Florence Sylvestre contribue au d\u00e9veloppement d\u2019une m\u00e9thodologie novatrice utilisant la composition isotopique*** de l\u2019oxyg\u00e8ne des diatom\u00e9es comme traceur des param\u00e8tres climatiques. Elle y inclut des approches de mod\u00e9lisation et d&#8217;hydrologie spatiale pour mieux comprendre les syst\u00e8mes lacustres et leur cycle hydrologique pass\u00e9 et actuel. Son objectif : estimer la ressource en eau des lacs et apporter cette expertise aux institutions locales pour une meilleure gouvernance. <em>Le Tchad des lacs, <\/em>ouvrage qu\u2019elle a codirig\u00e9 et publi\u00e9 en 2019 s\u2019ancre dans cette vision et propose d\u2019appr\u00e9hender de mani\u00e8re multidisciplinaire la trajectoire des zones humides sah\u00e9liennes face aux enjeux des changements globaux.<\/p><p><strong>Partenariat local<\/strong><\/p><p>Apr\u00e8s plusieurs missions de longue dur\u00e9e, Florence Sylvestre s\u2019installe en 2020 au Tchad o\u00f9 elle est affect\u00e9e au d\u00e9partement G\u00e9ologie de l\u2019universit\u00e9 de N\u2019Djamena. Repr\u00e9sentante de l\u2019IRD au Tchad, o\u00f9 elle est la seule expatri\u00e9e de l\u2019Institut, elle s\u2019emploie \u00e0 mettre en place des partenariats et \u00e0 former des \u00e9tudiants qui sont aujourd\u2019hui enseignants-chercheurs au sein de leur universit\u00e9.\u00a0 Elle codirige \u00e9galement le LMI <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ird.fr\/lmi-viabeleaux-viabilite-des-socio-ecosystemes-au-sahel-au-defi-des-changements-globaux\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">VIABELEAUX<\/a> avec le Dr Zakinet Dangbet de l\u2019universit\u00e9 de N\u2019Djamena. <em>\u00ab\u00a0Seul le lac Tchad \u00e9tait \u00e9tudi\u00e9 alors qu\u2019il en existe quatre autres de grande dimension et importants pour le d\u00e9veloppement \u00e9conomique du pays<\/em>, explique Florence Sylvestre. <em>Gr\u00e2ce au LMI,<\/em> <em>des \u00e9tudiants tchadiens partent sur le terrain pour \u00e9tudier ces lacs en lien avec des chercheurs en sciences humaines, des g\u00e9ologues et des hydrologues.
