R\u00e9cemment, leur application a \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e pour l\u2019\u00e9tude de la <strong>dynamique des sols<\/strong> et le <strong>tra\u00e7age des radio\u00e9l\u00e9ments<\/strong> avec des enjeux importants pour l\u2019industrie nucl\u00e9aire. Les nucl\u00e9ides cosmog\u00e9niques produits <em>in situ<\/em> permettent de couvrir une gamme allant de la centaine d\u2019ann\u00e9es \u00e0 6 Ma, ce qui permet une quantification des processus superficiels sur l\u2019ensemble du Quaternaire (d\u00e9glaciations, activit\u00e9 sismique, mise en place des sols, \u00e9volution des hominid\u00e9s, etc \u2026).<\/p><p>L\u2019acc\u00e8s \u00e0 la mesure des concentrations de ces \u00e9l\u00e9ments est en particulier un enjeu critique pour les groupes de recherche actifs sur les th\u00e9matiques des <strong>al\u00e9as naturels<\/strong> et du <strong>changement climatique<\/strong>. En effet\u00a0 \u00e0 partir de ces concentrations les chercheurs peuvent d\u00e9terminer les ages d\u2019exposition des roches \u00e0 la surface terrestre et ainsi reconstruire leur histoire pass\u00e9e en lien avec les probl\u00e9matiques suivantes\u00a0:<\/p><ul><li>contraindre l\u2019<strong>al\u00e9a sismique<\/strong> \u00e0 partir de l\u2019age des marqueurs morphologiques affect\u00e9s par une faille active<\/li><li>contraindre les <strong>fluctuations pass\u00e9es du climat <\/strong>\u00e0 partir de l\u2019age de marqueurs morphologiques (moraines, roches moutonn\u00e9es) abandonn\u00e9s par le retrait des glaciers.<\/li><\/ul><p>La mesure des concentrations de ces nucl\u00e9ides cosmog\u00e9niques dans des s\u00e9diments marins ou dans les glaces polaires\u00a0 permettent aussi de mieux contraindre les chronologies des champs g\u00e9omagn\u00e9tiques terrestre et solaire mais aussi de mettre en \u00e9vidence des \u00e9ruptions volcaniques pass\u00e9es.<\/p><p>La mesure des faibles concentrations de ces \u00e9l\u00e9ments dans divers types d\u2019\u00e9chantillons naturels (eau, sol, glace, roche) n\u00e9cessite des techniques de pr\u00e9paration tr\u00e8s fines, suivies de mesures de rapports isotopiques pouvant atteindre 10<sup>-15<\/sup>, et donc inaccessible par des techniques analytiques classiques, ce qui implique la mise en \u0153uvre de la <strong>Spectrom\u00e9trie de Masse par Acc\u00e9l\u00e9rateur<\/strong> (SMA).<br \/><br \/><\/p><h2><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Reconstruire les climats du pass\u00e9 en datant l&#8217;avanc\u00e9e et le recul des glaciers<\/span><\/h2><p>Les glaciers alpins r\u00e9agissent sensiblement aux changements climatiques, en particulier aux temp\u00e9ratures et pr\u00e9cipitations. \u00c9tablir des chronologies de leurs extensions pass\u00e9es permet de <strong>mieux comprendre les conditions climatiques<\/strong> sur des p\u00e9riodes pal\u00e9oclimatiques cl\u00e9 telles que la derni\u00e8re d\u00e9glaciation. Dans cette \u00e9tude, les moraines du Glacier d&#8217;Argenti\u00e8re, situ\u00e9 dans le massif du Mont Blanc, ont \u00e9t\u00e9 dat\u00e9es au <sup>10<\/sup>Be, montrant que le glacier avait des extensions plus larges et stagnait plusieurs fois entre ~11.7 et 10.4 ka, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire \u00e0 <strong>la transition entre la derni\u00e8re \u00e8re glaciaire et l\u2019holoc\u00e8ne<\/strong> (la p\u00e9riode chaude actuelle). Une mod\u00e9lisation glaciaire sugg\u00e8re que durant cette p\u00e9riode la temp\u00e9rature \u00e9tait entre 3.5\u00b0C et 5.5\u00b0C plus froide qu\u2019aujourd\u2019hui. Cette \u00e9tude montre aussi que \u00e0 la fin du Petit \u00e2ge Glaciaire (vers les ann\u00e9es 1820 et 1850), l\u2019augmentation de la pr\u00e9cipitation neigeuse \u00e9tait responsable d\u2019une avanc\u00e9e en 1820, tandis qu\u2019un refroidissement a fait avancer le glacier en 1850.<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S027737911930160X\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Protin, M., Schimmelpfennig, I., Mugnier, J.L., Ravanel, L., Le Roy, M., Deline, P., Favier, V., Buoncristiani, J.F., ASTER Team (<strong>2019<\/strong>): Climatic reconstruction for the Younger Dryas\/Early Holocene transition and the Little Ice Age based on paleo-extents of Argenti\u00e8re glacier (French Alps), <em>Quaternary Science Reviews<\/em> 221, 105863<\/a><\/p><h2><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"><br \/>Comprendre les variations pass\u00e9es du champ magn\u00e9tique terrestre<\/span><\/h2><p>Les variations pass\u00e9es du champ magn\u00e9tique terrestre t\u00e9moignent du fonctionnement de la g\u00e9odynamo. La mesure des concentrations de <sup>10<\/sup>Be pr\u00e9serv\u00e9 dans des <strong>s\u00e9quences s\u00e9dimentaires marines<\/strong> permet de retracer les fluctuations de l\u2019intensit\u00e9 du champ et, surtout, d\u2019\u00e9tudier les grandes crises de son \u00e9volution. Des \u00e9pisodes de surproduction du <sup>10<\/sup>Be ont \u00e9t\u00e9 mis en \u00e9vidence lors de toutes les <strong>inversions de polarit\u00e9s et excursions g\u00e9omagn\u00e9tiques \u00e9tudi\u00e9es.<\/strong> Ces r\u00e9sultats permettent de quantifier la dynamique de ces \u00e9pisodes transitoires d\u2019effondrement du champ. Le taux de d\u00e9croissance de l\u2019intensit\u00e9 pr\u00e9c\u00e9dant ces \u00e9pisodes appara\u00eet toujours inf\u00e9rieur \u00e0 celui mesur\u00e9 depuis 3 si\u00e8cles. Cette observation interroge sur la persistance \u00e0 moyen ou long terme du <strong>bouclier magn\u00e9tosph\u00e9rique<\/strong> qui prot\u00e8ge la surface terrestre contre le bombardement cosmique et entretien un lien intangible avec la biosph\u00e8re.<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0012821X2030491X\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Simon, Q., Thouveny, N., Bourl\u00e8s, D.L., Valet, J.-P., Bassinot, F., (<strong>2020<\/strong>). Cosmogenic <sup>10<\/sup>Be production records reveal dynamics of geomagnetic dipole moment (GDM) over the Laschamp excursion (20\u201360 ka). <em>Earth Planet. Sci. Lett.<\/em> 550, 116547.<\/a><\/p><h2><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"><br \/>Comprendre l\u2019\u00e9rosion des cha\u00eenes de montagne<\/span><\/h2><p>Le relief des cha\u00eenes de montagnes, telles que les Alpes ou bien l\u2019Himalaya, r\u00e9sulte de l\u2019influence combin\u00e9e de la <strong>tectonique<\/strong> et du <strong>climat<\/strong>. L\u2019importance respective de ces deux types d\u2019influence sur l\u2019\u00e9volution de l\u2019\u00e9rosion dans le temps et l\u2019espace est activement d\u00e9battue. Les concentrations en <sup>10<\/sup>Be dans les sables de rivi\u00e8res himalayennes ont permis de d\u00e9terminer les vitesses d\u2019\u00e9rosion au travers de la cha\u00eene. Ces donn\u00e9es montrent une augmentation marqu\u00e9e de l\u2019\u00e9rosion depuis le Moyen-Pays vers la Haute Cha\u00eene qui suit clairement celle du soul\u00e8vement tectonique, et est, en revanche, d\u00e9connect\u00e9e de la r\u00e9partition spatiale des pr\u00e9cipitations. Ces r\u00e9sultats supportent l\u2019id\u00e9e que, dans les cha\u00eenes de montagnes actives, la r\u00e9partition de l\u2019\u00e9rosion est en premier lieu <strong>contr\u00f4l\u00e9e par la tectonique plut\u00f4t que par les facteurs climatiques.<\/strong><\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1130\/G35342.1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Godard, V., Bourles, D.
