Parmi elles, certaines ont une origine bien plus exotique : la plan\u00e8te Mars. Ces rares \u00e9chantillons, environ 300 kg au total, sont d&#8217;une importance capitale pour comprendre l&#8217;\u00e9volution de la plan\u00e8te rouge et ses diff\u00e9rences avec la Terre.<\/strong> <\/em><\/p><p>Jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent, les sites pr\u00e9cis d&#8217;o\u00f9 provenaient ces roches restaient un myst\u00e8re. Une \u00e9quipe internationale, incluant des chercheurs CNRS Terre &amp; Univers (voir encadr\u00e9), vient de lever le voile sur l&#8217;origine de plusieurs groupes de ces pr\u00e9cieuses m\u00e9t\u00e9orites.<\/p><p>Pour r\u00e9soudre cette \u00e9nigme, les scientifiques ont mis au point une approche novatrice combinant intelligence artificielle, observations satellitaires, simulations num\u00e9riques d&#8217;impacts d&#8217;ast\u00e9ro\u00efdes et analyses g\u00e9ochimiques en laboratoire. Cette m\u00e9thode leur a permis d&#8217;identifier avec pr\u00e9cision les crat\u00e8res d&#8217;origine de trois groupes de m\u00e9t\u00e9orites martiennes, situ\u00e9s dans les provinces volcaniques d&#8217;Elysium et de Tharsis.<\/p><p>Cette d\u00e9couverte va bien au-del\u00e0 de la simple localisation. Elle met en lumi\u00e8re des diff\u00e9rences g\u00e9ochimiques fondamentales entre ces deux r\u00e9gions, r\u00e9v\u00e9lant l&#8217;existence de deux domaines mantelliques distincts sur Mars. Ces nouvelles donn\u00e9es ouvrent des perspectives fascinantes pour recalibrer la chronologie martienne, en particulier sur les deux derniers milliards d&#8217;ann\u00e9es. Les chercheurs esp\u00e8rent ainsi affiner notre compr\u00e9hension de la dur\u00e9e et de la nature des \u00e9v\u00e9nements qui ont fa\u00e7onn\u00e9 l&#8217;histoire de la plan\u00e8te rouge.
