Elles \u00e9quipent les voitures \u00e9lectriques et hybrides, les \u00e9oliennes, mais aussi nos smartphones, \u00e9crans ou ampoules. Selon Cl\u00e9ment Levard, la demande mondiale double tous les six ans, refl\u00e9tant leur r\u00f4le crucial dans la transition \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique. Pourtant, leur extraction est complexe : elles sont toujours associ\u00e9es dans des minerais, n\u00e9cessitant des proc\u00e9d\u00e9s \u00e9nergivores et polluants, g\u00e9n\u00e9rant des d\u00e9chets radioactifs et des impacts sociaux consid\u00e9rables. La substitution technologique est parfois possible : optimiser les moteurs de v\u00e9hicules \u00e9lectriques peut diminuer l\u2019usage d\u2019aimants permanents. La sobri\u00e9t\u00e9 des usages \u2013 autopartage, augmentation du nombre de passagers \u2013 est \u00e9galement une piste explor\u00e9e. Le recyclage offre un fort potentiel, mais reste limit\u00e9 par la dispersion des terres rares dans les objets et par la faible rentabilit\u00e9 \u00e9conomique. Actuellement, moins de 1 % des terres rares sont recycl\u00e9es, malgr\u00e9 des initiatives prometteuses comme <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnrs.fr\/fr\/actualite\/dossier-la-recherche-moteur-de-leconomie-circulaire\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">la start-up MagREEsource \u00e0 Grenoble<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-302926b elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"302926b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Les d\u00e9fis sociaux et environnementaux des nouvelles sources<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-375f53f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"375f53f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div><p class=\"p1\">L\u2019exploration de nouveaux gisements, en Europe ou dans les fonds marins fran\u00e7ais, soul\u00e8ve des questions techniques, \u00e9conomiques et environnementales. Pascale Ricard, souligne que la relocalisation des mines n\u00e9cessite un d\u00e9bat d\u00e9mocratique et une prise en compte des impacts sociaux et environnementaux. Les alternatives incluent les ressources secondaires issues de d\u00e9chets industriels, mais elles sont moins concentr\u00e9es que les sources primaires. Ainsi, \u00a0la solution r\u00e9side dans une approche holistique : \u00ab r\u00e9duire, recycler et produire autrement \u00bb. Leur extraction, leur utilisation et leur recyclage posent des d\u00e9fis scientifiques, industriels et soci\u00e9taux majeurs.
