Thibault de Garidel-Thoron

I am a micropaleontologist and paleoceanographer.  My research encompasses Pleistocene paleoceanographic reconstructions of the tropics. Interested in understanding the influence of cryptic diversity in foraminifera, I coordinated an ANR project (Paleo CTD), which produced the first census of genetic sequences of planktonic foraminifera in the global ocean. Recently, I led the design of the first high-throughput sorting automaton of microfossils – Microfossil Sorter (MiSo), operational 24/7 (patent, ANR Project FIRST) in collaboration with ATG-Technologies; and a new image processing software using Convolutional Neural Networks [Marchant et al., 2020]. Advanced image processing benefit now from the ongoing RapMed project focusing on consolidating the Machine-Learning micropaleontological approaches (funding ITEM Institute, AMU). I formerly led  the Climate Research Group at CEREGE (2018-2023) and chairs the French panel on Ocean-Atmospheric sciences (2021-ongoing).
