I am a modern and fossil planktic foraminifera specialist and paleoceanographer, who since 2018 leads the Climate Research Group at CEREGE. My research encompasses Pleistocene paleoceanographic reconstructions of the tropics. Interested in understanding the influence of cryptic diversity in foraminifera, I coordinated an ANR project (Paleo CTD), which produced the first census of genetic sequences of planktonic foraminifera in the global ocean. Recently, I led the design of the first high-throughput sorting automaton of microfossils – Microfossil Sorter (MiSo), operational 24/7 (patent, ANR Project FIRST) in collaboration with ATG-Technologies; and a new image processing software using Convolutional Neural Networks [Marchant et al., 2020]. Advanced image processing benefit now from the ongoing RapMed project focusing on consolidating the Machine-Learning micropaleontological approaches (funding ITEM Institute, AMU).
