Colloid characterization lab

The Colloid Characterization Laboratory is attached to the CEREGE Sustainable Environment research group.

It includes tools for characterizing the state of aggregation, surface charge and the shape of particles (nanoparticles) in suspension.

Suspended particle size measurement

  • measurement of particle size in liquid suspension (0.01 - 3000 µm) by laser diffraction (Malvern Mastersizer 3000)
  • size measurement of nanoparticles in liquid suspension (1 - 3000 nm) by dynamic light scattering (Malvern Zetasizer NanoZS)

  • size measurement, counting, and shape analysis of suspended particles (> 0.5 µm) by image analysis (Occhio, Flow cell FC200S)

  • sedimentation rate, time resolved turbidity, Stokes size measurement (Formulaction, Turbiscan Lab)

Surface charge measurement

  • zeta potential measurement of suspended particles (Malvern Zetasizer NanoZS)
  • zeta potential measurement of immobile surfaces (grain, membrane...) by streaming potential (CAD Instruments, ZetaCAD)
  • high-resolution automatic titrator with sample changer (Metrohm Titrino)

Particles shape

  • size measurement, counting, and shape analysis of suspended particles (> 0.5 µm) by image analysis (Occhio, Flow cell FC200S)

  • atomic force microscope (Brüker, Innova AFM)
