Planetology

Our studies focus on solid bodies of the Solar System: small ones (asteroids), planets (Mars, Earth) and their satellites (Moon). The research performed on meteorites allows us to study the early evolution of the Solar System (4.5 Ga) and the geological processes affecting small bodies (thermal metamorphism, aquaeous alteration, internal structures), while recent events like meteorite impacts on planetary surfaces are also investigated. A large range of tools is used: field campaigns with geological mapping, rock sampling (palaeomagnetism) and applied geophysics, isotopic geochemistry (oxygen, cosmogenic nuclides), petrography, mineralogy and numerical modeling. We strongly collaborate with some local research groups involved in planetary sciences: LAM, PIIM, CINAM and IRPHE.
