The Arbois Science Village celebrates its 20th anniversary!

The Arbois Science Village celebrates its 20th anniversary this year with a Science Festival on the theme of the Ocean! The CEREGE (Centre de Recherche et d'Enseignement des Géosciences de l'Environnement) is opening its doors and its science to primary school pupils and the general public free of charge on Saturday 5 and Thursday 10 October 2024, for the largest ever gathering of laboratories working in the environmental sciences.

The CEREGE presenters and lecturers will first take the floor at La Roque d'Anthéron on Saturday 5th October 2024, with workshops on the themes of water, climate, rocks, light and nanoparticles. A lecture by Olivier BELLIER, University Professor, Vice-President of Science and Society at Aix-Marseille University, will be held at 5.00 pm on the Earthquakes, from plate tectonics to the 1909 Provence earthquake.

The following day, Sunday 6 OctoberCEREGE will be presenting a workshop on earthquakes and seismic risk in Europe. Aix-en-Provence Science Village.

Finally, the Thursday 10 OctoberThanks to the involvement of a hundred or so researchers, teachers, technicians, engineers, CEREGE staff and regional scientific communication players, the Arbois Environmental Science Village will welcome nearly 800 schoolchildren from the South regionThere will be around 50 workshops and two conferences (see programme below).

The educational challenges of the Arbois-Méditerranée Science Village :

. Raising awareness among schoolchildren of the environmental sciences and the issues facing society (ocean acidification, climate change, seismic risks, soil pollution, impact of nanoparticles, erosion of biodiversity).

. Introduce pupils to the scientific approach using a non-academic approach, focusing on contact with scientists and their equipment . Raising awareness of the environmental transition.

Initiated by the Ministry of Higher Education and Researchthe Science Festival is the ultimate celebration of science, technology and innovation. Every year, over a million visitors flock to the thousands of free events organised all over France, open to all, to discover science in a fun and festive way.

The Village des Sciences de l'Arbois is run by the CEREGE in partnership with Petits Débrouillardson Technopôle Environnement Arbois Méditerranée, Aix-Marseille University and theObservatoire de Sciences de l'Univers Institut Pythéas.

With the participation of scientists from theIMBE(Mediterranean Institute of Biodiversity and Marine and Continental Ecology), the LAM (Marseille Astrophysics Laboratory), the LCE (Environmental Chemistry Laboratory), theIRDthe CNRStheINRAE (Aix-en-Provence), the Sainte Victoire Nature Reserve and the Aix-en-Provence Natural History Museum.
