Beltram, the new home of innovation and environmental science

Beltram, a privileged teaching place for students of innovation and environmental sciences.

A few dozen metres from the CEREGE and the hundred or so startups in the Arbois-Méditerranée Environmental Technopolethe BELTRAM education building of theOSU Pythéas (Observatoire des Sciences de l'Univers)The first CISAM + antenna is now located in the newly renovated building. In the continuity of the CISAMCité de l'Innovation et des savoirs Aix-Marseille, theCISAM+ antenna of Arbois brings together in the same building OSU Pyhtéas Masters students, future CISAM+ students and CEREGE teachers, in order to encourage exchanges and interdisciplinary projects.

A technopole dedicated to the environment

In 1994, the buildings of the former sanatorium of Petit Arbois (Aix-Les Milles) were renovated by the Department 13, on the initiative of Professor Daniel NAHON, to accommodate environmental research and technology laboratories. Following the installation of the CEREGE in 1995, other units such as the IMBE, the LCE, and then the M2P2 were established there. Today, the Technopôle Environnement Arbois Méditerranée, under the aegis of the Aix-Marseille Provence Metropolis, brings together several hundred researchers, engineers and technicians from public and private research, start-ups and business incubators.

The Observatory of the Sciences of the Universe - Institut Pythéas, and the Beltram building

Training has always been coupled with research activity. During the preparation of the 2015-2020 CPER, the management of the OSU Institut Pythéas, led by Bruno HAMELIN and supported by Pierre DOUMENQ and the late Didier BOURLES, proposed to Aix-Marseille University to submit a funding application for the renovation of the BELTRAM building, in order to bring together Master's courses in Environmental, Earth and Biodiversity Sciences. With the support of AMU, this project has now been completed, after four years of work, with 2,000 m2 on three levels dedicated to student reception, teaching and scientific computing.

The first CISAM+ antenna

The Cité de l'Innovation et des Savoirs d'Aix-Marseille, whose main aim is to meet the challenge of innovation by combining individual and collective skills in research, engineering, management and design, is associated with this project. This first CISAM+ antenna is equipped with collaborative and individual work spaces in order to facilitate the support of innovative projects from their conception to their maturation, by encouraging exchanges between students, teachers, teacher-researchers, industrialists and citizens to respond, through innovation, to the social, environmental, economic and health challenges facing our society.

Towards green and blue economies

Due to its location, this antenna will be dedicated to sustainable development, and more specifically to the green and blue economies in close collaboration with several CEREGE laboratories and platforms in particular, which are developing technologies in physics, chemistry and biology for research that are applicable to the construction of transition strategies towards these economies.

Aix Marseille University offers its students the keys to accelerating responsible innovation. A simple objective: to ensure that Tomorrow benefits from the immediate launch of innovative and dynamic research for a preserved climate and environment. Training through research and technological innovation concerns thousands of students who will follow various Bachelor's and Master's degrees or doctoral courses that are delivered by AMU's components and its doctoral schools in the fields of science, health, economics and management, law, and psychosociology.
